What is this qualification?

This qualification is a National Vocational qualification (NVQ).  It involves the skills and knowledge needed to do the job, ability to organise work and identify and prevent problems.  NVQs are based on national occupational standards, which you must meet to be competent in a particular task.  The achievement of NVQs will encourage you to value your contribution to the workplace and it will develop your skills and potential.  This qualification requires occupational evidence.

Who is this qualification for?

  • Those who wish to gain a recognised qualification
  • Existing workers looking to pursue a career as a competent electrician
  • Those with previous electrical qualifications and some experience

What does this qualification cover?

The skills and knowledge required to install Electrotechnical systems and equipment in buildings, structures and the environment.  The qualification is made up of knowledge units and performance units.  The units cover a wide range of topics including health and safety, environmental technology systems, overseeing and organising the work environment, planning, preparing and installing electrical systems and equipment, terminating and connecting conductors, cables and flexible cords, inspecting, testing, commissioning and fault diagnosis and correction.

Integral to this qualification is the Electrotechnical Occupation Competence Unit which is assessed by the AM2. The mandatory units must be achieved but the number of units that have to be achieved is dependent on previous qualifications. This would be agreed with your assessor once we have confirmed previous achievements (would need copies of certificates).

There are 8 units in the NVQ which are broken down into a number of elements.

These are –

  • 301 – Ensure safe site working
  • 302 – Diagnose and correct faults in Electrotechnical systems and equipment
  • 303 – Provide technical and functional information to relevant people about Electrotechnical systems and equipment
  • 304 – Maintain a safe and healthy working environment
  • 305 – Prepare to install electrical wiring systems, wiring enclosures and equipment
  • 306 – Install electrical wiring systems, wiring enclosures and equipment
  • 307 – Connect wiring systems and equipment using safe and approved methods
  • 308- Inspect, test and commission an electrical installation

Costs

If you pay in full, the qualification will cost £1550.00 – saving £161.00

Alternatively, you can pay in installments and the total cost will be £1711.00 (NVQ £1150.00 + AM2 £561.00)

You can also completed an AM2 revision session / day to revise for the AM2 assessment, at a cost of £150.00
