Coleg QS are a privately run Work Based Learning Training Provider who receive Government Funding and operate 50 weeks of the year. We are currently open for business and are looking forward to being able to help you with all your training needs.
If you are a school leaver and maybe thinking about the a career in Electrical, Construction or Motor Vehicle give us a call we may be able to help and advise you.
Maybe you are an employer who has employees who you want to gain a recognised qualification for all the hard work they are already doing, again this is something we may be able to help with.
We are also currently looking for employers who feel they may be able to give a school leaver a chance to complete a Level 1 qualification with a view to then completing an apprenticeship. If you think you may be able to support us with this please give us a call.
Our number is 01633 277843, we look forward to hearing from you.
At this uncertain time we want to let all our learner’s know that we are here to support you. Any questions that you may have, your assessor/tutor is on hand to answer. Alternatively you can call the main office number 01633 277843.
We will try our very best to ensure that your training is disrupted as little as possible.
Take care and stay safe!
Coleg QS are back open! If you are looking to complete a Traineeship or Apprenticeship with us, why not enquire now. Contact us on 01633 277843.
Following Government guidelines, Coleg QS has shut our office in Two Locks and our AM2 Centre in Springvale until further notice.
Learners will still be able to contact their Tutors/Assessors for guidance.
All Traineeship Learners can still submit their timesheets for payment to the following email address carolinestephens@colegqs.co.uk or via the mobile number you will have been given.
For any other queries please contact Caroline on the above email address or Rhianna Noyes at rhiannanoyes@colegqs.co.uk.
Take care and stay safe.
We at Coleg QS have made the unenviable decision that from Monday 23rd March 2020 we will shut the centre to learners who attend on a regular basis to reduce the risk. All learners will have access to digital links where they can still continue their learning remotely. This will apply to all individuals inclusive of distance learners. We are also sending work to be completed via one file for you (if you have a OneFile account). This is also applicable for employers so it would be appreciated if this can be checked to keep an eye on when they are needed to be completed. Learners will still have regular contact with a member of staff in relation to review and learning processes as all staff have been allocated sufficient resources to allow this to happen.
We will still continue to hold exams and AM2 sessions however there will be no more than 3 learners in at any time and full guidance will be given to each individual in relation cleanliness and avoidance of any spread of the virus.
We are still open and will not close unless either we are instructed to or the risk becomes too high to continue opening the centre however we will still be contactable if this does become the case.
If there are any issues or any questions, please contact us on 01633 277843 or via email.

Dydd Miwsig Cymru 2018 / Welsh Language Music Day 2018
Have you thought about listening to welsh language music on the radio or online?
Well on 9th February, Coleg QS did just that to promote and celebrate welsh language music day. We listened to welsh music as well as put posters and guitar picks around the centre to promote the welsh language to our learners and staff members.
You can get involved by listening to welsh language music online, tuning into a welsh radio station or even by learning a welsh language song. There are many ways to get involved so why not do it?
Wear Red for Wales and Velindre!
On Friday 2nd February, Coleg QS staff and several of our learners took part in ‘Wear Red for Wales and Velindre’ which was a fundraiser for a fantastic charity which helps cancer patients at Velindre Hospital in Cardiff.
The motto for this year was ‘HELP US PAINT WALES RED!’ We all took part and wore red for the event which was sponsored by Wales Online along with many other schools, colleges and businesses across the country.
We are looking forward to raising money for more great charities like this one in the near future!

Coleg QS Attend Cwmbran Careers Fair
Coleg QS attended a careers event at Cwmbran stadium on 23rd January to advertise the opportunities we are able to offer young people of Torfaen and the wider areas. Many young people attended the day to find out about what’s available for their next steps after leaving school. We had much interest in our courses with lots of young people asking questions and showing enthusiasm. The day was a big success for Coleg QS getting our name out to the young people and giving them advice and guidance on their potential career paths for their future.

Christmas Jumper Day at Coleg QS
We had a great day on Friday 15th December at Coleg QS with all our staff getting involved and throwing on our best Christmas jumpers in aid of ‘Save the Children’. Our learners got involved and had to guess the Christmas song that was under the sticker to win half the prize money. Fortunately for one of our learners, they were in luck! They won half the prize money and the other half went to the charity.
Through researching where the raised money can go, I found out from the ‘Save the Children’ website that our money can help children across the world including children in the UK. Children living in poverty receive help and support as well as those who are in need of the necessary early learning support to bring their learning levels up.
Coleg QS will be looking to take part in this event again next year and hope to raise even more money for this great charity!
Funding Available to Recruit New Apprenticed for Small and Medium Enterprises
The Apprenticeship Employer Incentive Programme has been developed to support small and medium enterprises (SMEs) who have less than 250 employees to recruit new apprentices to their company.
Young people aged 16-19 can be recruited to complete an Apprenticeship with a SME (regardless of the Apprenticeship level) if the company has not had an apprentice within the last 30 months of the new learner(s) starting their training.
The grant offers a payment of £3,500 per apprentice (a maximum of 3) who have been recruited to the company from January to March 2018. For learners who have been recruited for the other months of the year, £2,500 may be available. The grant will be paid to employers after the learner has been working with the employer for 8 months. A company can only claim the grant for a maximum of 3 new apprentices providing they meet the below requirements:
- The apprentice is not already an employee of the company
- The company has less than 250 employees
- The company can confirm they are not able to recruit an apprentice without having the grant
- The company is based in Wales or the learner spends 51% or more of their work time in Wales
- The company has not had an employee or anyone start an apprenticeship within the last 30 months
- The company can commit to employing the learner for the duration of their training programme or 12 months (whichever is greater)
- The company can commit to employing the learner for a minimum of 30 hours per week
- The company can commit to paying the learner the relevant wage following guidelines
- The apprentice must be signed onto the course and start employment on the same day

National Apprenticeship Week 2017
From 6th – 10th March it is National Apprenticeship Week in Wales and England. During this week, businesses, learners and training providers will be recognising apprenticeships and promoting the advantages to others.
Apprenticeships are beneficial for businesses and people as they allow you to gain a recognised qualification whilst in the workplace. They also give a new lease of life to businesses and many employers keep their apprentices on after training has ended due to them becoming a valued member of the team.
Apprenticeships are available throughout Wales and offer businesses the opportunity to better their workforce and improve the skills of their employees. It really is a win, win for all involved!
If you are interested in completing an apprenticeship, taking on a new learner or have a current staff member which you would like to complete a course then please contact us for more information.
You can follow the Apprenticeship Week activities by following their page on Facebook or Twitter and you can post your activities on Twitter by using the hashtag #AppWeekCymru.

Coleg QS Has Success at the Apprenticeship Awards Cymru 2016
On Thursday 20th October, Coleg QS attended The Apprenticeship Awards Cymru at Venue Cymru in Llandudno. The Awards is a high profile ceremony that is held every year to showcase excellence in skills development by learners, employers and training providers. It recognises the hard work of individuals and businesses who promote the positives of Apprenticeships.
This year we were very proud to have one of our fantastic employers shortlisted for the final of the Apprenticeship Awards Cymru in the small business category. Crimewatch Alarms was put forward for the Apprentice Employer of the Year award by Coleg QS. We have worked with CWE for many years now and felt that their hard work and passion for training young people and adults needed to be recognised.
We are proud to announce that they won the award! Congratulations to CWE and everyone who made it this far.
